Futurists, the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Drop

Futurists, the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Drop

Officially the Dolce Gusto Drop coffee maker is shaped like a coffee bean. At my work, we talk more about a joystick or a space shuttle escaped from a futuristic movie. In any case, it’s very popular and makes an excellent icebreaker when we get new customers.

Code name: Krups YY2501FD Nescafé Dolce Gusto Drop.
She is therefore the most incredible Krups Dolce Gusto coffee machines. I mean, yes, every other coffeemaker in the brand has a unique style, but this one breaks records and I think that’s why my boss chose it.

La dolce gusto drop on the technical side

Futurists, the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Drop

This coffeemaker offers creamy coffees thanks to its 15 bars of pressure. It also allows you to program hot and cold drinks.

Its tank can accommodate 0.8 l, which is less than the Dolce Gusto Melody 3, which is 1.3 l. The good news, however, is that you can easily monitor the tank level. If it is located under the machine, there is a small window on the front of the coffee maker that allows you to see if it is necessary to refill the tank without opening it each time.

The cup holder can be positioned on three different levels or completely removed. This means that a variety of cups can be installed, from a large mug to a small espresso cup. Ideally, always place the top of the cup as close to the spout as possible to avoid splashing.

If the on/off button is a classic button, the settings are made with the help of a touch screen on top of the Dolce Gusto Drop. The whole thing works well and is pretty intuitive. I’ll tell you more about its use below.

The Drop coffeemaker goes into watch of herself after 5 minutes, which is a very good thing for the slightly militant environmentalist that I am. Especially since afterwards, when you turn it on, it only needs 25 seconds to warm up.

Finally, the need to descale the coffee pot is reported. The on/off button turns orange. Simply pour product into the tank and press the on/off button for 5 seconds. Then empty the tank completely (let the water run out of the nozzle). It is best to fill the tank with clean water afterwards to rinse all the pipes. This is quite quick and easy to do.

How to use the Dolce Gusto Drop?

Dolce Gusto talks about smart capsules, because the pressure would be adapted for each of them. I don’t know if this is the case, but I don’t find these capsules particularly intelligent, unlike Tassimo’s t-disc.

These have a barcode and Tassimo does everything. On the dolce gusto capsules is the amount of water needed, but you need to do-it-yourself with the touch screen.

In itself, it’s not complicated, but it would be better not to have to. It is also during this setting that you have to decide whether the water will come out hot or cold (yes, you can make yourself a cold cappuccino if you wish).

Finally just throw the drink.

It takes 25 seconds to preheat followed by 15 seconds to prepare an espresso. This time increases to 25 seconds for a long coffee. To make a mug, you need two capsules to be linked one after the other. Luckily there is no heating time between the two. On the other hand it is rather expensive in terms of price of the capsules.

With the machine, six different capsules are offered to test the different flavours offered by Nescafé. Afterwards the capsules are on sale everywhere and there are starting to be compatible capsules offered by other brands.

Dolce Gusto Drop, full review

Futurists, the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Drop

If I had to help you decide which Dolce Gusto to choose, I’m not sure I would recommend this one, only because of its design. It’s a little too futuristic for me. Besides, I don’t drink that much coffee at home, so Dolce Gusto Piccolo would probably be enough.

But if you leave design aside, I like this coffeemaker. It’s fast, only takes a minute to make coffee. Maintenance is done in no time at all, because all parts to be cleaned are removable. So we can give them a quick sponge bath while we wash the dishes in the cups.

On the other hand, I think it’s a shame to have to think about adjust the water level every time. On the one hand, I like to be able to make stronger coffees than the capsule calls for. On the other hand, when I forget the setting, pressing too fast to start my coffee, I can’t stop the water flow before the end.

Fortunately Nescafé drinks are very nice. There’s also a lot of choices.

Side prices, it’s still 117 euros, so it’s pretty high-end. Its price varies according to the colours, it exists in red, grey, white and black. Compare Dolce Gusto machines, to find a role model perhaps more suited to your scholarship.

The plusses:

  • espresso in 40 seconds
  • 4 levels for the cup holder
  • original design
  • sleep mode after 5 minutes
  • indicates descaling to be done

The least:

  • one cup at a time
  • 61 dB

The Dolce Gusto Drop is an ultra design version technology included in all Nescafé coffee makers. With just a few movements, you can make a smooth and balanced coffee. The touch screen works well, wipes clean and looks sturdy. Above all, it’s a coffeemaker that will never leave anyone indifferent!
