Some Dolce Gusto machines are really classy and have pride of place in some offices. But have you ever discussed among colleagues (or even with your spouse for the personal machine) about its maintenance? Who’s going to have to descale the dolce gusto movenza that everybody loves?
It often feels like it’s going to be a long and complicated process and that you’re going to get the wrath of every coffee addict if you push the wrong button. However, it is very easy to start a descaling cycle, it will only take you fifteen minutes and the quality of your future coffee will be affected. So, ready to find out how to descale a Dolce Gusto coffeemaker?
How do you descale a Dolce Gusto Krups?
Decalcifying a Dolce Gusto coffeemaker is really easy and it will only take you about 15 minutes. The technique is the same on all machines whether it is to descale a Dolce Gusto Oblo or to clean a Dolce Gusto Piccolo.
The stepping stone is descaling. To do this he dilutes the Dolce Gusto liquid descaling kit in the water tank. Then a large container must be installed under the spout. In order to start the descaling, the on/off button must be pressed for 5 seconds. The button will then flash green. Then set the machine to serve a large cup and to have hot water. The water will be poured out in two to three minutes. Do not touch anything until the on/off button stops flashing green.
The second stage is the rinse. First empty the container under the spout and then put it back in the same place. Also wash the water tank and fill it with clean water. This time, press the on/off button as normal. Then prepare the machine to serve a large cup. Run hot water first and then start again with cold water.
That’s it, it’s over, you can enjoy your clean machine.
Be careful, not all coffee makers work the same way. In other words, a descaling in fifteen minutes is nothing compared to what other brands require. If you are wondering how to descale a coffee maker of another brand, here are our different articles: maintain a Nespresso, descale a Senseo and nettoyer une Tassimo.
Why are you descaling my Dolce Gusto coffeemaker?
The presence of limestone in the pipes weakens the machine and affects the quality of the drink served. The more limescale there is, the less the coffee maker is able to work. This makes it difficult for the coffee to fall or splash around. The drink arrives lukewarm. Or the coffeemaker wakes up the whole building because it is so noisy.
Maintaining a coffeemaker simply means allowing it to function properly for longer periods of time.
How often is it necessary to descale?
The rate of descaling varies depending on the water you use. If you first put your tap water through a filter jug, one descaling per year will suffice. If not, you should plan one per quarter or semester. Note that the use of bottled mineral water is not necessary, tap water is perfectly suitable.
And if you have problems with your coffee maker, decalcifying is very often the first thing to do before calling customer service. As a reminder, this can solve the problems of running water, warm drinks and noisy machines.
Finally, if the on/off button on your Dolce Gusto coffeemaker is orange, it means that the machine requires you to descale. It is not related to the condition of the pipes, but to the number of coffees served.
Can you use white vinegar on a Dolce Gusto machine?
White vinegar is often recommended to remove limescale. However, all brands of coffee makers are unanimous, you should not use vinegar to descale an electric coffee maker.
The main argument is irrefutable: white vinegar damages the seals.
On the one hand your machine has no more limescale, but on the other hand there is a high risk of internal leakage…
In addition, white vinegar has a very strong smell that stays on the plastic and will transfer to your drinks. You might as well avoid mixing vinegar and coffee.
Presentation of the descaling kit for Dolce Gusto
Technically this is not a Dolce Gusto decalcifying kit, it is a liquid decalcifying kit suitable for all coffee makers. But it has been tested by many users to decalcify a Dolce Gusto and all are unanimous: the result is really top notch.
This product is a pack of two small bottles. One bottle of descaler is suitable for one descaling and must be diluted in one litre of water. But the best thing about this product is that it is possible to buy several packs and save money directly. Currently on amazon a pack costs less than 9 €. Technically buying 4 packs should cost a little less than 36 €. But they are sold at 30 €, a not bad price at all.
But it’s not just the price that matters. This liquid descaler Dargol Swiss Espresso (its real name) also has the advantage of being odourless. In fact, the more sensitive ones might feel something when they empty the bottle, but that’s all.
And now you can enjoy your next Nescafé Dolce Gusto coffees in complete peace of mind. And even more, you will be able to enjoy them for several years without the risk of having to change your coffee maker too quickly.
