Each Tassimo coffeemaker stands out from other capsule or pod coffeemakers by its complete automation of beverage preparation. With the Tassimo Vivy 2 model, this principle is taken to the extreme, since it is no longer even necessary to switch the machine on or off. It does this itself automatically.
For the rest, we still have to make sure that the quality of the drinks is there and that it is a solid and practical coffee maker. To do this, we take you through it step by step.
Presentation of the coffee maker Tassimo Vivy 2
The basic model is the old Tassimo Vivy coffee machine. With this Vivy 2 model, Bosch offers an improved coffee maker, even if the nuances are quite fine.
As a classic Tassimo coffeemaker, it has a 3.3 bar pressure (not ideal for a creamy espresso, more than enough for everything else). It works with T-Disc, i.e. specific capsules with a barcode. So there are no adjustments to be made, the drink is always with the right amount of water and at the right temperature.
The Tassimo Vivy 2 is a compact coffeemaker. It measures 17x31x25 cm and weighs only 2.4 kg. Apart from the fact that the tank is located on the left side, it could be totally installed on any shelf, surrounded by books or trinkets.
Its design is curvaceous. And although it is made of mostly plastic, it is no less solid. The cup rest can be installed at two different levels (depending on the height of the cup and to avoid splashing).
How does Tassimo Vivy 2 work?
The use of Tassimo Vivy 2 is very simple. It could be summarized as three stages :
- install the capsule (and cup);
- turn on the coffee maker;
- eject the capsule (and take its cup).
It is important to remove the used T-Disc right away, as the nozzle (the element from which the drink flows) continues to drip as long as it is in place. An unpleasant little design flaw when discovered with dirty water all over the place.
Three lights are used to ensure that the coffee maker is working properly. One of them signals the preparation of a drink. As long as it is flashing orange, you can add a little more hot water to your drink. The other two indicate the status of the tank and when to descale the coffee maker.
Tassimo Vivy or Tassimo Vivy 2, what’s the difference?
The Tassimo Vivy is the coffeemaker that was used to make the Tassimo Vivy 2. So they are two machines that look very much alike, especially since Bosch has not created any revolutionary novelties.
The main difference comes from full automation of the coffeemaker. It no longer needs to be switched on and off. On vivy 2 everything is automatic. Well almost, because in reality the coffee maker is on standby and not totally off. As a result, it continues to consume a little electricity.
The other difference is in the design. Vivy 2 is more rounded, more elegant than Tassimo Vivy. But the preference for one or the other is personal, it’s up to each person to choose according to his or her tastes.
Finally, in terms of pricing, it’s pretty much the same thing. For more choices, consult our comparative Tassimo.
Critical review of the Tassimo Vivy 2 coffee machine
I think it is a pity that Bosch is not proposing real differences, a clear and frank improvement between the Vivy and the Vivy 2. On the other hand, it is a compact coffee maker, very easy to use. So there weren’t many faults with the original version.
The tank is quite small as it is only 0.7 l. However, it is more than enough for many of us.
To make a long coffee, it takes one minute to prepare a long coffee, time to preheating included. In fact, it’s mostly a coffee maker for people who live/work alone. Indeed, there is a small reservoir, as I was saying just above, and you have to allow a preheating time before each cup. In other words, when there are three of us who want a coffee, it immediately takes a little more time than on other models, such as the Senseo.
Its maintenance is really simple. All removable parts are dishwasher safe, but they can also be quickly cleaned by hand at the same time as the cup of the day. And the fact that there is a light signal that appears when descaling is a real plus. This step is essential to extend the life of a coffee maker, but it is not always easy to think about it.
Finally, the fact that the nozzle running away is more of an unpleasant surprise. To avoid that, just remove the T-Disc before grabbing his cup. Either way you have to do it. But Bosch might consider improving this on his next capsule coffeemakers!
At what price to buy Tassimo Vivy 2?
The recommended retail price of the Tassimo Vivy 2 coffee maker is €79. However, since this model has been on sale for a few months now, it is possible to buy it much cheaper.
So on Amazon, I saw it for about 35 € for the red Tassimo Vivy 2 and the rose. The Tassimo Vivy 2 black model is a bit more expensive, at about 45 €. In any case it’s much less than the official price.
- discrete (54 dB)
